Language Choices
written by Kate Lamprich
Word choice is important.
Take into consideration the connotations surrounding different words.
Understand the way the words will be received by different people who are intended to hear or read them.
Know the power your words have to bring your thoughts into existence.
We are posting this month about peristeaming and uterine cleanses. These terms are very intentional.
Peristeaming
Peristeaming is more commonly known as a Yoni Steam or Vaginal Steaming. Peristeaming is meant to be inclusive because steaming is something that can be experienced by individuals of any gender identification who do or do not have a vagina or yoni.
Uterine Cleanse
Uterine Cleanse is more commonly known as a period, menstruation, womb cleanse, aunt flow, moon days, and so on. This term is meant to be inclusive as well as to more accurately describe the physiological event. The choice not to use the term period is because the origin is to describe the monthly cleanse of the uterus as a periodic illness that is experienced; this gives a connotation of there being something wrong with people who menstruate, when just the opposite, it is a healthy function of the body.
